John Key is to create a 1 billion dollar fund to build new roads, water supplies and other infrastructures in areas in most need of new housing.

These areas include Auckland, Christchurch , Queenstown , Tauranga , and Hamilton.

The fund will be open to councils in areas of high population growth and tightly targeted at core infrastructure supporting additional new housing.

Councils will be required to pay the money back from rates etc as the homes have been built and taken possession of by new home owners.

I for one support the idea as its just not new housing that is in great demand it is the infrastructure to accommodate the levels of new housing required.
