Largely due to the “leaky home” issue that has become a burden for councils throughout the country and the liability that councils had in regards to leaky homes new laws were introduced.
They introduced 4 new categories that building works in New Zealand would be assessed under with differences in regards to the amount of involvement that councils would play in those categories.
The 4 new categories are low risk, simple residential, Standard, and commercial. Standard being the only one of the 4 where council involvement would remain the same as it always was.
